Project Planner in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht

Werken bij Bolidt

Project planning does what its name implies: the department plans and prepares for all of Bolidt's projects. It starts with a list of things that need to be checked. Do the square metres in the contract correspond to those on the working drawings? Do technical conditions on-site meet the requirements for carrying out the work? Project Planning measures all the spaces on the working drawings so the amount of materials and which tools are needed for the project can be determined. Together with the SHEQ department, Project Planning also prepares all the health and safety plans, including the work plans needed for all projects worldwide. Conclusion: as a project planner you should enjoy figuring things out. And be able to persevere. If the square metres don't add up, it can be challenging to find out where the mistake is. Experience with AutoCAD is helpful, as well as some knowledge of structural engineering. Very important: the ability to think in 3D. You are looking at a flat drawing, but you have to visualise the project in your head.

Operations provides full (administrative) support for all of Bolidt's projects, making arrangements as varied as staffing application teams, booking plane tickets and hotels for the installers, ordering materials, requesting delivery documents from contractors and last but not least: liaising with the customer. About the starting date of a project, for instance. That means spending a lot of time on the phone and being able to switch quickly between tasks, because, in any given week, Bolidt has about 70 projects running worldwide. A qualification such as a BTEC national diploma is a plus, as is a no-nonsense attitude. So: you need to be hands on and able to work well under pressure. To work in Operations you also need strong communication skills, knowing what to say to customers, but also to the guys in Application.

Application means installing the thermosetting synthetics. Application also means: adventure. You work on projects around the world. On one project you may find yourself working on the decks of an enormous cruise ship in Miami and on another installing high-tech flooring at a German hatchery. The work can be intense at times, but it is always rewarding. Installers are immensely proud of their projects and rightly so. They all pulled together and created the spectacular design floor finish in London's Science Museum, for example. After working on all those projects together, you go the extra mile for each other. The team spirit is very strong and there is a sense of camaraderie that you won't find anywhere else. Well, maybe in the military.

Traditionally, Purchasing's role is to ensure that everyone within a company has the materials they need to do their job. But Bolidt is not a traditional company and so Purchasing is in a constant state of flux. Its role is changing from ordering to negotiating terms. Purchasing secures the best terms - price, delivery, quality, specifications - so that employees themselves can easily order what they need without losing time. This is how Purchasing makes its contribution to LEAN production at Bolidt. By linking Sales, Operations and Purchasing together, the purchasing cycle is shortened considerably. The result? All the materials needed for a project are ordered automatically and delivered just in time based on the terms negotiated by Purchasing. Purchasing oversees everything using, among other things, QlikView. This tool visualises data and gives Bolidt real-time insight into all purchasing information. Again: the department is in a constant state of flux. Working in Purchasing therefore means breaking new ground on a regular basis. And Bolidt will give you plenty of scope to do so. Do you have a good idea? Go ahead and do it. What doesn't change is our philosophy of collaboration. We see suppliers as partners, with whom we aim to build long-lasting relationships.

LOGISTICS

The Logistics department plays a crucial role in Bolidt's projects: without materials, the application teams cannot start their work. Logistics therefore makes sure that everything - products and tools - is delivered to the project site on time. By road, air and sea. Challenging work, especially when it comes to international projects. Which starting date did Sales agree with the customer? How long does it take for the ship to get to Hong Kong? How much time will it take to clear customs? Is the deadline achievable for Production? The fact that Bolidt keeps everything in-house makes the work even more interesting. Because this means that you're involved in a project right from the quotation stage, instead of only at the end. It also means that you'll have frequent interactions with colleagues, shipping companies and customs authorities. Strong social skills and resourcefulness are therefore essential, as well as the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. There is no time for waffle.

PRODUCTION

Production produces all the components for Bolidt's flooring systems, surface courses and marine decking. Working in Production, you sometimes have to knuckle down to get the job done. But: always keep your wits about you. You need to have an affinity with chemical substances and be able to carefully read the formulas. Besides quality, safety and sustainability are high on the priority list. There is no such thing as waste and we are committed to keep making our production even greener. When you work in production, you are at the basis of everything that Bolidt creates. You are producing for a specific project. That also means working under time pressure: the installers cannot be kept waiting for their products. Once you have managed to get everything done, you have made an important contribution to a successful Bolidt project. And every reason to be proud.

WAREHOUSE

The warehouse issues all products, tools and consumables the installers need to do their jobs. This does not only include the components, mixed and packaged to specification, but also the (hand) tools and machines, for instance, that are needed to install a floor finish. You get all the products ready for transport by road, sea and air and know how to pack and label them according to the applicable rules and regulations. As a warehouse operative, you always work on specific projects with a hard deadline. That means that you must be able to work accurately and under pressure: the right products need to arrive at the project site on time and in the right quantities. If the shipment is not complete, the installers cannot start their work. Not ideal (and very costly) to have them waiting for their materials in Australia. So you play a crucial role in all the projects Bolidt carries out across the world.

TECHNICAL SERVICES

What's in a name? Everything, when it comes to Technical services. The department looks after all maintenance of tools, the company fleet and the production machines. Technical services checks, maintains and inspects all the tools and equipment the installers use every day. To ensure that they are ready for use, anywhere in the world - despite differences in, for instance, mains voltage and frequency. This makes Technical services an important department, because it makes sure that the installers can keep doing their job. All regular inspections and small repairs on our 85 company vehicles are also carried out by Technical services. Additionally, the department ensures that the vehicles go to the dealer for service on time. The customisation of all company vehicles is also done by Technical services. And finally, it deals with any damage to the vehicles, as well as the maintenance of the machines that are used to produce the components, prefab materials and products like Esthec. The name says it all: if you are good with your hands and have a passion for all things technical, you'll love working in Technical services.
